Lizzo is the New Face of Urban Decay

Lizzo is the New Face of Urban Decay

Lizzo, one of 2019’s biggest stars, has just unveiled her very first beauty collaboration with one of the most popular brands in the industry, Urban Decay. This is a huge milestone in any performer’s career, and an especially poignant moment for Lizzo, who has continuously fought against racial injustice. As part of the new “Pretty Different” campaign — which also features Joey King, Ezra Miller, Karol G, and CL — the Coachella performer serves as one of UD’s Global Citizens in a series of promotional videos that celebrate the power of uniqueness in beauty.

Urban Decay stated, “To embody the vision that beauty is not about standards, Urban Decay has partnered with five individuals who are Pretty Different. They are unique, they are powerful, they are inspiring, they push boundaries.” Lizzo is the perfect representative of these values, and her inclusion in this campaign expands the boundaries of beauty norms in a way the world needs.

The award-winning singer took to Instagram to share the news; her excitement is truly palpable, exclaiming in all caps, “BABYS FIRST MAKEUP CAMPAIGN- IM #PRETTYDIFFRENT I LOVE MY WIDE FACE, HIGH CHEEKBONES AND DOUBLE CHIN! IM A BAD BITCH IN MY @URBANDECAYCOSMETICS!!! WHAT MAKES YOU PRETTY DIFFERENT??? #UDPARTNER”

Not only does Lizzo look absolutely gorgeous in this campaign, but her inclusion is also incredibly important; she actively promotes racial equality and plus-size normalization, something rarely seen in traditional beauty ads. The historically slow-moving push to include more diverse faces and bodies in the industry is progressing thanks to brands like Urban Decay who understand why it’s important that all people, regardless of what they look like, be represented fully in their products.

It seems that the beauty industry is making efforts not just to accommodate a wider range of skin tones, but to also celebrate diverse body types in their promotional materials as well. With the efforts of other progressive brands like Glossier, Wet ‘n Wild and Milk Makeup, this increased accessibility creates lasting growth within the industry.

Lizzo has always been a strong, beautiful woman, and now with Urban Decay more of the world can admire her and her trailblazing work.
